Join or Die

Today we analyzed Ben Franklin's "Join or Die" cartoon from an issue of the Pennsylvania Gazette in 1754.  The image itself was a metaphor for the necessity of the 13 Colonies to come together in times of conflict.  At the time it was an attempt to join in the fight against the French.  By 1765, however, it became a rallying cry for the Sons of Liberty and other revolutionaries wanting to break away from English rule.

You were given the task of creating a political cartoon or a recruiting poster for the Sons of Liberty.  You needed to create an image or symbol that could be used as a metaphor for the message "Join or Die."  This is due on Monday.

Have a great weekend!

French and Indian War

Today we wrapped up our French and Indian War Map.  Students detailed a timeline of events that took place during the war and showed on a map where those events took place.  When they were finished students were assigned to complete the 'French and Indian War Crossword Puzzle'.  Below is an attached copy.

Also students were given their assignment P. 136: Review Questions 1-10.  This is due on Wednesday, but there was time in most classes for students to get a start today.

*Remember our Chapter 5 Test is on Thursday*

Society in Colonial America

In Friday's class we discussed what life was like in Colonial America during the 100 years leading up the Declaration of Independence.  We focused on the authority of James II, the Glorious Revolution, and the social divisions that arose during this time period.

We will continue to build on these themes in the coming weeks.  In the upcoming week we will be researching and completing projects that detail aspects of the Great Awakening, the Enlightenment, and the earliest universities that were established during this time period.  I look forward to seeing what each of you find in your research.

Your assignment on Friday was to complete the notes on Society in Colonial America.  Your notes are due on Wednesday next week.  Below are links to copies of the Notes and the PowerPoint slides.

Missing Projector Remote

Yesterday a remote that was recently purchased for my room was taken.  It is not cheap, and would cost a good deal of money to replace.  If you did take it please return it immediately.

Thank you,
Mr. Bails
